I don't think of what I write as trying to evoke a mood or hold some fixed philosophical position. I'm trying, as carefully as I can, to track the actual structure of the universe as physics describes it - to face existence honestly using the best scientific account available, without seeking meaning or the comfort of transcendence.
I am not pessimistic. I am only trying to be accurate.
